JOB DESCRIPTION
Position: Community Work Incentive Coordinator-South Valley
Salary: Full time non-exempt position. Benefits include medical, dental, vision and life insurance, paid holidays, sick leave, vacation leave, and 37.5 hours/work week.
DESCRIPTION OF POSITION:
Under the direction of the Director of Program Services, Center Coordinator, and Lead Community Work Incentive Coordinator, the Community Work Incentive Coordinator will coordinate, develop and direct Benefits Planning assistance to persons with disabilities and provide outreach services within the required catchment area.
Benefits Planning requires an in-depth understanding of the current status of a person being served; provides peer support to persons with disabilities over a period of several weeks to several months; establishes plans for persons with disabilities; develops long term supports that may be needed to ensure success; provides periodic follow-up services to ensure that information, analysis and guidance are updated as new conditions arise.
DUTIES INCLUDE:
1.   Provide Benefits Advise to consumers. Community Work Incentive Coordinator will provide planning and assistance to persons with disabilities (and their families) who are potentially eligible to participate in Federal and State work incentive programs.
2.   Conduct outreach efforts to persons with disabilities. Facilitate public forums relating to services provided.
3.   Work with Federal, State and private agencies/nonprofit organizations that serve persons with disabilities with emphasis on SSA.
4.   Provide information on the adequacy of health benefits coverage that may be offered by an employer to persons with disabilities, including other such coverage’s that may be available.
5.   Provide case file management and documentation, including research related to specified field.
6.   Complete in a timely manner all necessary program and agency documents, reports and paperwork.
7.   All other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
1.   BA/BS in Social Services or related field. Experience may be substituted for education on a year-to-year basis.
2.   Ability to successfully relate to and communicate with people with disabilities, their families, other organizations, agencies, volunteers, and consumers.
3.   Knowledgeable of basic computer skills, internet research, operation of standard office machinery and TTY.
4.   Ability to be creative, using sound judgment in workload coordination and in technical matters.
5.   Ability to determine consumer needs and direct referrals to the appropriate resources.
6.   Experience using Windows operating software including ability to use Microsoft Word processing software, internet, Excel, PowerPoint and various other database/software.
7.   Knowledge of programs and services available to persons with disabilities with emphasis on SSI/SDI and other SSA programs.
8.   Self motivated with good verbal, written and organizational skills. Must be able to write clearly, edit and grammatically correct letters, reports and gather statistics.
9.   Deductive ability with analytical thinking and creative problem solving skills.
10.   Ability to interpret Federal laws, regulations, and administrative
code about public benefits.
11.   Knowledge of medical terminology and awareness of cultural
and political issues pertaining to various populations and to
various disabilities.
12.   Knowledge of all public benefits programs, including operations
and inter-relationships.
13. Ability to translate technical information for lay individuals
14.   Ability to listen, evaluate alternatives, advise on potential cause of action.
15.   Knowledge of SSA field office structure and how to work with various work incentive coordinators.
16.   Must have own transportation with proof of insurance.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Must have the ability to communicate with diverse ethnic groups, people with disabilities and their families. Understand the concepts/philosophy of Independent Living. Ability to exercise initiative, ingenuity, and sound judgment in workload coordination and in technical matters.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Applicants must have the ability to perform all the duties listed above with or without reasonable accommodations. Must have the ability to remain in a seated position for long periods of time, low to high noise level. Most work will be conducted indoors with some outdoor requirements to fulfill. Must have the ability to meet travel requirements of the position.
